Out in the Yard

The back wall of the back yard is dominated by a large shade tree outside between the house and the highway.  It drops these little flowers all spring, and creates little hard berries that require I wear sandals most of the time to avoid stepping on them.

The most interesting part of these little flowers is how fake they look. They are the image of some plastic flowers we had when I was a kid, where the hole fit over a green plastic knob.

I thought I had found the species of the tree years ago, but I forgot it since then. I haven’t had much luck today rediscovering it.

I have a few of these mystery plants in the yard that I would like to figure out what they are and if they are worth keeping.
