When Gus goes visiting he spends a lot of time at this wall, communing with this plant. Is it some kind of catnip-ish plant? He doesn’t seem to eat it, or roll in it, but it makes him happy. I’m not sure I want to know the species, in case it turns out to be deadly poison to cats.
I’m not sure if this is the same climbing plant that is creeping under my wall from that general area. I haven’t seen Gus sniffing at it so far inside the yard. Of course, to the cats, the pool area is their yard.
Gus likes that particular spot because the sprinkler head is just the right height to scratch his chin while he enjoys himself. I’ve even seen him go there with people in the pool area, which is very surprising given his cautious nature.
This pic reminds me of the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem. Hope I’m not being too irreligious here. Anything for a laff.

He probably just loves the smell of it. I’ve seen them chew on grass without actually eating it. Love the shot of him with his mouth open like that!
Gracie loves to have something sharp, scratchy, or pointy (preferably all three in one object) to rub her face against while she’s getting petted. Go figure. Cats are so weird…

I think you are likely right, kimkiminy. He has a reacted very strongly to smells before. Last year I bought a new brand of kitchen countertop cleaner and he would come running from all over the house whenever I used it, and hang around smelling it until it wore off.
nadbugs, it would look even closer to the Wailing Wall if there were even more cats there, but as far as I can tell only Gus has the fixation with this plant.
