This evening when I got home I thought it would be a good day to explore the front yard for a change. I know that Gus especially likes it out front and he doesn’t have Julius’ ability to jump from one side to another.
Julie obviously took the lead and went straight to the lawn to look around. Gus went out but strangely Calpurnia ran in past me as I went out with the camera. I think she felt a sneezing fit coming on, because Gus kept looking in the door instead of his usual habit. So since she wasn’t coming out front, I closed it up and opened the back door instead.
After a few minutes of sitting right by me, Gus and Calla sat very close to each other, although you can see from Gus’ body language why he tends to get off on the wrong foot with other cats. Some times this leads to a buffet from Calpurnia, but not this time – the peace held and Gus even lay down flat in the most absurdly cautious way you can imagine.
Calla helped his blood pressure soon after by moving away from him and a bit closer to me.
Half on the rock, half off, one paw out, one curled in. This must have some deep symbolism to a cat, since so many of them like this kind of position. It is one of their secrets.
Aloha Oldcat,
I think Calpurnia really is lovely. Would she consider internet-dating a younger cat?
Sincerely,
Pedro the Cat

She might, Pedro. But you might want the “bag trapped on your head” incident fall off the front page of your blog before asking!

Gus does look like he is inviting a smack upside the head. Calpurnia so so regal yet plushie in the last photo. Lovely.

Gus looks like a bulldog! And Calla? [thud] A show-stopper. And Julie with the deluxe-floof tail. What a trio.

He definitely acts bulldoggy when he wants to – those months when I had to pill him up were quite a struggle

If that’s the look Calla was giving Gus, I can see why he was on guard!

Julius looks so much like Maui from the back, lean and muscular, with handsome flowing fur. Of course Maui is a total crazypants lunatic so the resemblance stops there.

What is it with the half and half one-pawed pose? It’s a mystery we’ll never understand. But it’s cute to watch, and that’s enough for me.
