And here she is for real in her short hairdo. The idea was just to remove almost all of the bulk of the long hair. Since she’s not a show-cat, there’s no reason to try to do more than just cut it off. The lumps and bumps smooth themselves out as it grows.
This angle shows the texture of the cut sides a little better. It really resembles wool until it relaxes a little bit. Walking around she looks like she is wearing thermal pajamas. It’s pretty cute.
She did come out lighter, but not as I expected. The back leg is a lot lighter, as the hair from the dark spot where her ‘knee’ is when sitting down overlay the leg fur. Her side is quite a bit lighter, but the from seems darker since the white shirt front and stomach hair isn’t covering the dark pointed hair on the front legs anymore. She looks a lot lighter from above and a whole lot smaller. She no longer looks nearly spherical!
And the best thing of all – now she can get at herself without the hair on her front gagging her so much.
The other cats took some alarm from the carrier. Gus was still hiding under the bed when I brought her home a couple of hours later. Julie was out and about, but he still doesn’t quite know what to make of her. He’s hissing at her from time to time and trying to sniff at her.
She didn’t like that too much – she never really does, and she’s a bit extra touchy herself still.
