Point and Counterpoint

Ok, the picture might be silly but it seems to be silly season around here, as Julie and Calpurnia are continually trying to one-up each other in their game.  I might have gotten it going when Calla was sitting nearby and I started pushing Julius into the ‘no go zone’ around her.

He’s very funny when you try to force him somewhere – he never growls or hisses, but he squirms and wiggles to get his way. Or away, in this case.  At one point he flopped down and I held him a second while Calla got up and sniffed him right at the neck. He was too startled to move.

Later that night, though, Julie got even.  He was resting, curled at the base of the cat tree.  Calla wanted to climb to the top, but to get to her favorite post to shinny directly up she would have to move right next to him.  Instead, she walked around the front and jumped to the first level basket, which was right over him.

The instant she jumped he uncoiled and reared up and gave her a big swat, catching her on the side right behind her front leg.  She was so startled she gave a huge hiss, but he was away and strutting around.  She went on to jump up to the top level but she knew she had been scored on.

Today it was more of the same.  I was taking some pictures and Julie moved in to “Photo Bomb” the shot by crouching on the first step right in front, with his tail sticking up in the way.  She moved forward and put her nose into his tail fur which made him jump, as you can see.

But Julie was better natured and didn’t hiss or swat, but settled back down once he got turned around where he could keep an eye on her.

And Calla settled down, knowing that she had scored a point or two herself.

They stayed put for a few minutes longer.  I’m sure they are planning more gambits for later!

Oh man, in that first photo, what a cutie!

  3. I have a new favorite photo of the lovely Calpurnia! She looks absolutely adorable in the first photo. I especially love the single black foot pad, and the tip of her little pink tongue that matches her toe pads…

I love Julie’s expression and attitude in the last pic, compared to Calpurnia’s angelic pose. Even his whiskers look cross!

  5. Wow, how did you wind up with three of the cutest cats on the planet??? Love the pictures, all of them!

So much personality coming through in Julius’ face in that last picture! I can see him twirling that mustache!
