These days Julie is the one cat of the three that really owns the front yard. Gus hangs out on the path for a while, and rarely these days sneaks into the pool area to sniff at plants. Calla does visit the neighbors in the other direction when I let her, and every so often walks around the pool. But she avoids the grass.
Julie likes to hang out on this little hill quite a bit, when he isn’t off elsewhere. Sometimes he will end up here when he ‘wanders’ out the open back door. I find that out when he appears at the front door wanting in, rather than check the door he left by. It isn’t unknown for him to waltz in the front and stroll right out the still open back door.
The first stop is the top. If there is something interesting going on down the street – behind him in this shot – he will lie down on the slope facing that way. Oddly, he doesn’t seem to hide himself when doing this observing. Another favored spot is somewhere in the manicured edging, where the bushes give some shade. This is a good spot when it is hot.
Today, though, he stayed in most of the day and was content to gather himself on this little carpet scrap and take a nap.
I was trying to get a picture of Calla curled up in her hammock bed, but when I sat down to do it, she got up onto the sofa herself and started making biscuits there. I suppose it was better than the days when she would run away when I got nearby, but it ruins the photo all the same.
