It’s Saturday, so it must be cut large amounts of fur off of Gus day!
I’m not sure of the reason, but from being in good shape mat wise a few months back, Gus is breaking out in mats all over. They aren’t large, but there are a lot of them so the effect is much the same when you cut them….big gaps in the coat. I suppose the good news is I am getting better with the clippers. The bad news for Gus is that he might run out of fur at this rate.
How good was he? Well, he got pretty riled up, but considering that much of the work was on his front legs and chest instead of the back this is understandable. He wasn’t so much trouble I couldn’t get it done eventually and it sure seemed that the skin under these mats was more sensitive than it should be.
Then a bit later I found a big one on one side of his neck I missed.
After stomping off in a huff for a few minutes he was relaxed enough to take some treats that I gave him to help him get over it all.
A bit later in the afternoon we got outside for a while. You can see one bald area on the leg that was a circle of little mat spikes. I’m not sure why he was so reluctant to actually step in the dirt, preferring to lean way out to get some sniffing done.
Hang in there, Gus.

Aw, Gus Gus, first the vet with Julie then mat cutting… you’ve had quite a time these last few days! You need hugs and treats and many many scritches! I hope you feel better now that the mats are gone!
