Taxing Times

Another day of the cats making themselves scarce until Calla trotted in from outside and wasn’t quick enough to avoid getting snatched up.  I don’t often do this sort of thing but I plunked her on my lap, upside down.  And got out the camera….

I remember when she first game here she was almost impossible to catch and was totally impossible to keep feet upward like this.  She’s relaxed somewhat since those days.  She’s still good at squirming herself upright, but willing to put up with the “affection tax” every so often.

Not that she’s standoffish – if I lie down she’s usually going to show up in a few minutes and stand next to me and even lie down there for a while and get pets and rubs and the like.  She’s just a bit nervous when things aren’t on her terms.

I usually let it go at that, but I do reserve the right to annoy her from time to time.

This morning there was a record attendance as I woke up in bed.  Often the cats will come by and visit before I get up – most often one after another.  Today first Gus came, then went down by my feet, then Julie came and sat by my shoulder, and finally Calla came and sat by the other shoulder.

Full House.

Lovely soppy look on her face, you can tell she loves it!

  2. She looks resigned to the affection tax! MOL
Greg does that sort of thing to Star once in a while, she wants his attention, but hates being picked up. He will brave the claws and pick her up and hold her and she talks the whole time, but never runs when he puts her back down.
What a way to wake up, I bet they were trying to convey that it was breakfast time!

Love the “affection tax.” You as IRS.

  5. Truffle will let me lay her on her back, but Brulee isn’t comfortable letting me do this. It makes it difficult to groom her tummy.

I like it: “affection tax.” When Gracie’s really sleepy, I can sneak in a few kitties on her nose, before she really knows what’s happening.
