Chance of Rain

We are due for a normal Saturday here.  The only thing that didn’t cooperate is the weather, which was decidedly cool with clouds that looked like they might rain any minute mixed in with regular ones and even some clear sky.

I took a chance and went on a hike out into the hills.  I took an extra jacket just in case.

I’m not sure why Gus decided to settle down on top of the sandals I wore after coming back from the hike.   He looks content, though.

The trail  I took climbed up to follow a ridge line overlooking the valleys.  That went all right, although I was a tad concerned about possible lightning.  The second half of this particular trail follows a set of power lines in the back country, which seemed a bit dicey.  Then I saw a turnoff to a trailhead I had never gone down before, which ran down below the hilltops and would be safer if it did storm.

In the end it did not rain, but the new trail was pretty interesting.  There was a bush or tree with interesting bark – it looked polished.

Another interesting effect is how the bark didn’t completely cover the tree.  It looked almost like it was syrup poured down the tree.  Odd stuff.

With the time change, I started the hike earlier to have some spare daylight left after getting home.  Julie appreciated it. even if the chilly temperature had him puffing up his coat a bit.

Julie really does look like a wild animal that you need a licence for! The red glossy bark is intriguing – never seen anything like this before.

Great post. Everything’s interesting, fauna n flora. Including Gussie on the footwear. My guys do the same thing, every so often. Cats. Who knows. The scent, don’t you think?

I think so – I know Jackson Galaxy has several times described the fetushes of cats for shoes, discarded coats, the bed, bedroom closets, and so on as items and places that smell most like you without being you.
