Today Rhea came sneaking in while Anna was eating dry food and got about a foot and a half away before Anna saw her. That was loud, but no smacks, and Anna backed up a little.
This morning I put Rhea on the shelf where Anna sits by the window before playing with Anna on the couch. Anna was turned the other way for a long time and Rhea just watched her with big eyes…
Anna saw her eventually and did some complaining, but played a little bit afterward with Rhea right there watching without moving.
After the spat, Rhea did a similar thing just watching from across the room without relaxing but not hostile or tense…just watchful and careful. I haven’t seen this kind of reaction from a cat before. She isn’t hostile, but she WILL move closer until Anna fights back. And she isn’t really playful…she’s very careful and businesslike in her movements. And determined.
She wasn’t like this with the boys when she met them, either.
Anna went to her safe cubby, and growled but would play a little bit.
Rhea kept watching.
Anna relaxed a little, until I finally took Rhea out. I’m not sure Rhea is helping break down resistance, but I don’t know that it isn’t. And I’m not sure if there’s a way to get her to stop it if I wanted to.
