The pictures are from yesterday. Today I stayed home mostly to rest up since I have been pretty tired most days this week for no apparent reason and it has been a while since I took some time off without being really ill. Or at all.
But I did take the chance to schedule Davout with a vet call since he was due for an exam and he has been throwing up pretty frequently this last week or so.
It isn’t just hairballs, as most of the stuff in it is dry food remains rather than a hairball. It was pretty frequent, then stopped for a day or two, then picked up. His energy has been pretty good all this time, and he’s eaten fairly well. It is a little hard to tell since he tends to eat when nobody is watching.
So I figured lets make sure it isn’t something more serious.
Nothing seemed to be wrong elsewhere, and the vet seemed to agree with my theory that came to me the other day when I noticed that the bag of dry he’s eating now turned out to be kitten food and not for adult cats. The brand was different, although I think I have used Purina dry before (its a semi-fancy version rather than cheapo stuff, Pro-Plan or some such).
The vet was just gushing about how handsome he is and how well he is doing aside from that. Although, he is getting some tooth issues so he will have to go in for a cleaning. Oddly all the bad stuff is on one side, apparently his jaw is a bit asymmetrical.
He’s pretty scared at the vet, and not yet willing to take much comfort in me being there too so he was pretty worked up. Some relaxing time out back made him feel better, and unlike his sister he never climbed over the wall and made me go find him.

Aw, poor baby, the crunchies are probably too rich for his tummy. He may still be a Kitten, but his stomach isn’t.

Hope Davout’s little niggles get righted soon. He’s such a handsome guy! No wonder the vet was gushing over him.

One thing I learned about cat dental issues is correction costs pretty much at the same level as dental issues for humans! One of my cat Andy’s lower incisors was rubbing against an upper canine, and had to be removed to prevent erosion of the canine (a more critical tooth in the end).
Andy, too, had some facial asymmetry that brought about this issue, and there was no question the incisor had to be saved even if it meant poor Andy had to be put under and have the incisor extracted.
We got through it, I paid the incredible bill, but Andy is assured a healthier mouth full of teeth now that the one crowding his lower jaw is gone. Looking in his mouth, you can’t even tell there was a tooth there because the remaining teeth were able to settle into a normal row.
May Davout have the same good luck!

It doesn’t look to be as bad as needing removal right now, just that the tartar is building up on that side and if we clean it maybe we can hold off needing removals. Gus had quite a few removals over his life, so I’m familiar with the costs.

Hope you’re both feeling better soon. I wonder if it is the weather: it was unusually hot for April, and windy. Allergies don’t usually bother me, but dusty air does, and my eyes were red and my sinuses clogged up. Even Sunny, who enjoys a robust constitution, seemed fatigued and out of sorts. A can of salmon florentine cat food seemed to perk her up, but she slept for the rest of the evening, not her usual program.

I had a cold a bit earlier and fought through it, but didn’t really have any symptoms lately aside from just being tired out. I can’t pin it down to anything, although I tend to like hot weather well enough.

My 18 year old girl (long-haired) throws up food–been doing this all her life. Once in a great while she will get up the hairball that is causing the distress. I keep her lubricated with Laxatone, everyday if necessary.

Julie used to spit up every so often, and Marshal had coughed up the odd hairball. The sudden onset unrelated to hairballs caught my attention.
