Gone Yet Never Forgotten

A year ago today Julius went missing.  All signs point to him having been killed that night by coyotes a few houses down the street.  He was seen to be attacked and a neighbor got him loose.  He survived that, but never made it the half block home again.

Julius was only rarely the star of blogs.  He was tolerant of everyone in the house, waited for everyone else to eat first before his dinner.  In fact, most days he would want to go outside before even getting any food.

He even put up with Gus and his lick-lick-lick bite style of grooming.

He never had any significant issues with Calla.  She chased him about a little when she was getting adjusted to the house in her first days.  He put up with it, and soon they were amicable.

After Calla’s death, he was very tolerant of the kittens and they mostly respected his stature.  Rhea a little less than Davout.

He always got less exposure on the blog because he was only rarely trouble, and his main interest was his self imposed guard duties outside on the wall in the yard and out in the neighborhood.  In a lot of ways he was not wholly himself when lazing about inside, and you only saw his entire spirit when he was guarding everyone.

But when he was around, he was very good to photograph, if you could keep him from squinting first.  Or even if you couldn’t.

Even mistake photos turned out well with him.

We all miss him, and think about him all the time.

  1. Julius is much missed here. I always enjoyed seeing pictures of this handsome boy, though I fancy he thought of himself as being guardian of the house.

Nobody can forget his eye spot (source of his warrior and protective power?) and how good he was with Mr. Gus. I’m glad he was around to initiate the kittens into the household.
