Today is Marshal’s birthday, he’s four. He got a special food from the fridge in the grocery store that he liked, but just like him after a taste he allowed all the kitties to have their share first.
He’s not the bravest cat by nature but from his first days here he decided he had to overcome that to watch out for his little half sister. She’s bold as brass, but Davout was the first to go down and explore the rest of the house and meet the older boys, Julius and Gus.
He also tried to take the lead with Anna but her hostility drove him back each time. He still is nervous about her antics, but makes himself go and visit her while staying out of sight. He got into the habit of grabbing and holding the other cats to keep them from bothering Anna too much.
He had a bit of a weepy eye as a kitten, it has been better recently.
Now he’s the patriarch of the cats and outside of Anna the oldest. He still likes to hover at the margins and see that the other cats are doing all right before he gets his share. When I need to do something annoying to one of the cats, like give pills or cut out mats, Davout will be there to see what is wrong. He’s a serious little guy who only wants everyone else to be happy.
