Kitties are a little antsy because there are high winds tonight. There was a gust of 80 miles an hour in the hills to the south. There are wildfires loose tonight as well.
This time the fires aren’t that close to the house, which is good because the firefighters might have to let some buildings go. I’ve really been amazed how there have been fires covering tens of miles with no houses and something like three outbuildings lost.
The Thomas fire to the west is about 20 miles by 10 miles in extent. The near edge is something like 40 miles off, quite a bit closer to work.
I’ve learned to watch the USGS survey satellite data to show where the fires are burning over the last hours. Regular news tends to be rubbish, just showing pictures of scrub on fire. There was a fire in 2003 within a few miles of here that extended about 40 miles from end to end, but they managed to mostly halt it on the highway to the north.
Hopefully the wind won’t do us damage here.
I’m glad you are safe at this point and pray that you continue to be safe. Fire is a horrific business to deal with and the winds make it all the worse, as you Californians sadly know all too well.

Thanks for the tip about watching the USGS survey satellite data for fire information. The maps I’ve found by googling seem to be outdated.
Rhea is starting to look like her old self again. They are all quite regal. Stay safe!
